The Oslo Sports Trauma Research Center organized the 1st World Congress on Sports Injury Prevention in Oslo in June 2005, and has also hosted the 2nd World Congress in Tromsø in June 2008. The first congress gathered approximately 550 participants from more than 50 nations; the second congress was also fully booked with more than 700 participants from 65 nations.

The scientific program held a very high standard and has contributed to highlight this research area nationally as well as internationally. Additionally, a three-day pre-congress seminar was arranged in 2008 before the World Congress on Injury prevention, an Advanced Team Physician Course, at Svinøya rorbuer in the Lofoten that attracted 80 participants. The next Advanced Team Physician Course will take place in June 2010 in the World Heritage site in Geiranger, Norway.

The next congress, the IOC World Conference on the Prevention of Injury and Illness in Sports was organized by the IOC, in collaboration with the Oslo Sports Trauma Research Center, in Monaco in April 7-9, 2011 with a pre-congress Advanced Team Physician Course in Corsica.
